  • 3C 454.3 very bright for all the week, with daily flux between 10.0E-6 and 15.0E-6.

  • PKS 0537-441 detected for all the week, with daily flux between 0.4E-6 and 1.0E-6.

  • NGC 1275 detected in high activity state on Dec. 6, with daily flux of (0.8+/-0.3)E-6.

  • B2 2308+34 detected in high activity state on Dec. 6, 9, and 12, with daily flux between 0.8E-6 and 1.0E-6.

  • PKS 2326-502 detected on Dec. 6, 11, and 12, with daily flux between 0.5E-6 and 1.0E-6.

  • 4C +21.35 detected in high activity state on Dec. 6, 9, and 10, with daily flux between 0.7E-6 and 1.5E-6.

  • PKS 2155-304 detected on Dec. 6, 7, 10, and 12, with daily flux between 0.3E-6 and 0.4E-6.


  • Sporadic daily detections of blazars: 3C 279 (Dec. 6), Ton 599 (Dec. 6), PKS 0402-362 (Dec. 8), CGRaBS J2345-1555 (Dec. 8), and PKS 0426-380 (Dec. 9).

Fermi LAT weekly report N. 130



Covered period: 2010.Nov.29 - 2010.Dec.5

LAT Mission week: 130.57 - 131.57





  • PKS 0447-439 was detected in high activity state on Dec. 5, with a daily flux of (0.6+/-0.2)e-6.
    VHE emission from this source was discovered by H.E.S.S. on November-December 2009 (ATel #2350). PKS 0447-439 has been associated with a BL Lac object at z ~ 0.2 (Perlman et al. 1998, ApJ 115, 1253) or with a Seyfert 1 galaxy located at a redshift of z=0.107 (Craig & Fruscione 1997, AJ, 114, 4).


  • 3C 454.3 very bright for all the week, but with a decreasing daily flux from 24.0E-6 to 15.0E-6.

  • PKS 0537-441 detected for all the week, with daily flux between 0.4E-6 and 0.9E-6.

  • 4C +21.35 detected on four consecutive days this week (Dec. 1-4), with increasing flux between 0.7E-6 and 2.8E-6.

  • PKS 2155-304 detected on Dec. 2, 4, and 5, with daily flux between 0.2E-6 and 0.4E-6.

  • PKS 2326-502 detected in high activity state on Dec. 3 and 4, with daily flux of 1.0e-6 and 1.3e-6, respectively.

  • Sporadic daily detections of blazars: PKS 0524-485 (Nov. 29), B2 1520+31 (Nov. 29), PKS 0402-362 (Nov. 30), B3 1708+433 (Nov. 30, Dec. 1), 3C 66A (Dec. 2), PKS 0336-01 (Dec. 3), CRATES J2237-3921 (Dec. 3).

Fermi LAT weekly report N. 125



Covered period: 2010.Oct.25 - 2010.Oct.31

LAT Mission week: 125.57 - 126.57






  • The flat-spectrum radio quasar 3C 454.3 is still the brightest extragalactic source on the sky. The largest daily flux this week was (7.6 ± 0.8)e-6 on Oct 28.

  • The flat-spectrum radio quasar 4C +21.35 was bright from Oct 25-29, reaching (1.9 ± 0.4)e-6 on Oct 26.

  • The flat-spectrum radio quasar PKS 2326-502 was detected throughout the week, reaching (1.3 ± 0.3)e-6 on Oct 27.

  • The flat-spectrum radio quasar PMN J2345-1555 was detected throughout the week, reaching (0.7 ± 0.2)e-6 on Oct 29. This is part of ongoing activity reported in several ATels (#2972, #2977, #2986, #2989, #3004).

  • The flat-spectrum radio quasar B2 1846+32A reached (1.1 ± 0.3)e-6 on Oct 29.

  • The BL Lac PKS 0537-441 was detected on Oct 26 at (0.9 ± 0.3)e-6 and again on Oct 31 with a similar flux.

  • The classic BL Lac Mkn 421 was detected on Oct 26 and 31 at (0.2 ± 0.1)e-6.

  • The following sources were detected sporadically (in one of the seven one-day time bins): PKS 2155-304, B3 1708+433, PKS 1730-13. PKS 1730-13 turned out to be the beginning of a flare that was sustained into the following week, as reported in ATel #3002.

  • Fluxes are in the unit of photons/cm2/s above 100 MeV. All errors are statistical only.

  • PKS 1730-13 detected in flare on Nov. 1-2, reaching a daily flux of (1.7+/-0.3)E-6 (see ATel#3002) and continued to be active for most of the week.

  • 3C 454.3 very bright for all the week with daily flux between 8.0E-6 (Nov. 1) and 14.0E-6 (Nov. 5).

  • PKS 1830-211 detected for all the week with daily flux between 0.8E-6 and 2.5E-6.

  • PKS 2326-502 detected in high activity state during the entire week, with daily flux between 0.7E-6 and 1.5E-6.

  • CGRaBS J2345-1555 (also known as PMN J2345-1555) detected on three consecutive days this week (Nov. 1-3), with daily flux between 0.6E-6 and 0.8E-6.

  • B3 1708+433 detected in high activity state on Nov. 3, with daily flux of about 0.9E-6.

  • 4C +21.35 detected on Nov. 2, 4, and 5, with daily flux between 0.3E-6 and 1.3E-6.


  • Sporadic daily detections of blazars: PKS 0537-441, B2 1215+30, B3 2308+34, B2 0619B+33, B2 1520+31, PKS 0336-01, PKS 2155-304, 3C 66A, BL Lacertae, 3C 279.

Fermi LAT weekly report N.123



Covered period: 2010 Oct. 11 - 17

LAT Mission week: 123.57 - 124.57





  • Outburst of high-redshift and gravitationally lensed FSRQ PKS 1830-211 (z=2.507), with important gravitational magnification and Galactic absorption features. The source on October 14, 2010 showed a bright gamma-ray outburst with a daily flux of (5.2+/-1.1)E-6 more than a factor of 12 greater than reported in the Fermi-LAT 1st year catalog (ATel#2943). The flux was higher on Oct. 15 (7.8+/-0.9)E-6, about 18 times the 1-year catalog average flux).

  • PKS 2155-304 reached the threshold of daily flux (1.0+/-0.3)E-6, with photon index 2.6+/-0.3 (ATel#2944). 

    This index value can be due to statistical dispersion and flux-index correlation at low test statistics
    values, close to the sensitivity curve, rather than to a real softer-when-brighter behavior of this high-energy peaked
    blazar.

  • CRATES J0531-4827 bright during the week. 

  • 3C 454.3 bright above daily flux 2E-6.

    The flare of 4C 21.35 is continuing also this week (daily flux above 2E-6).

  • PKS 1329-049 flare at about 1.7E-6 id a day of the week.

    Other sporadic detected blazars: PKS 2326-502, PKS 0208-512, B2 1520+31, PKS
    0426-380, S4 1030+61, PKS 2142-75, B2 0619+33, Mkn 421, 4C 38.41 (B2 1633+38), B2 1846+32A, GB6 J1722+6105, PKS 0537-441, PKS 0244-470

Fermi LAT weekly report N.123



Covered period: 2010.Oct.18 - 2010.Oct.24

LAT Mission week: 123.57 - 124.57





  • NGC 1275 was detected on Oct. 20 and 24 (daily flux below 0.7 X 10-6).

  • PKS 0426-380 was detected on Oct. 18, 21, and 23 (daily flux below 0.7 X 10-6).

  • PKS 0524-485 was detected on Oct. 18, 20, and 21 (daily flux between 0.3 and 0.9 X 10-6).

  • B2 0619+33 continued to be detected through the entire week (flux between 0.8 and 1.4 X 10-6).

  • Mkn 421 was detected on Oct. 18, 23, and 24 (daily flux at 0.3 X 10-6).

  • 4C 21.35 was relatively bright during all week, with daily flux below 1.6 X 10-6.

  • PKS 1830-21 continued to be detected with a peak flux of 4.6 X 10-6 on Oct. 18.

  • The FSRQ PKS 1846+32A (CGRaBS J1848+3219) appeared on Oct. 17 with a flux of 0.7 X 10-6, when a simultaneous near-infrared flare was observed (ATel#2953). The source increased the gamma-ray flux up to 2.2 X 10-6 on Oct. 18 (see ATel#2954). In the following days the flux level stabilized between 0.7 and 1.2 X 10-6.

  • The FSRQ PMN J1913-3630 appeared on Oct 21 and 22. In the first day the daily flux was 1.3 X 10-6 and an ATel was posted (ATel#2966). The source was not detected previously neither by LAT or by EGRET.

  • PKS 2155-304 continued to be detected through the week (flux between 0.5 and 0.9 X 10-6).

  • 3C 454.3 was very bright during all week, with daily flux above 3.9 and up to 5.1 X 10-6.

  • PKS 2326-502 was detected on Oct. 20, 22, and 24 (flux between 0.7 and 1.0 X 10-6).

  • The FSRQ CGRaBS J2345-1555 appeared in the last day of the week with a flux of 0.6 X 10-6. The source showed an increased activity in the optical and a joint ATel with the ATOM team was posted (ATel#2972).

  • Sporadic activity observed from PKS 0537-441 (Oct. 19 and 21), CGRaBS J1033+6051 (Oct. 19 and 20), B2 1348+30B (Oct. 23), and B3 1708+433 (Oct. 18). All fluxes below 1.0 X 10-6.

Fermi LAT weekyl report N.120



Covered period: 2010.September.27 - 2010.October.3

LAT Mission week: 121.57 - 122.57




  • Following the increased gamma-ray activity report by the AGILE and LAT collaborations from the Crab Nebula ( ATel #2855, ATel #2861), the daily flux appears to be returning to typical levels. The Crab was seen throughout the week ranging in daily flux from (4.2+/-0.7)E-6 on the 28th to (2.3+0.5)E-6 on the 1st.


  • The FSRQ 3C279 was detected in a flaring state on the 27th with a daily flux of (3.9+/-1.4) E-6, Atel #2886. The flux decreased steadily over the next 3 days to a daily value of (0.7+/-0.3) on the 30th and was not seen in the second half of the week.


  • CRATES J0531-4827 (also known as PMN J0531-4827) was detected in a high state throughout the week. The daily flux ranged from (0.8+/-0.3)E-6 on the 27th to (1.6+/-0.3)E-6 on the 2nd. The LAT collaboration reported the detection of GeV gamma-ray emission from this blazar in Atel #2907. It is very close spacially to PKS 0524-485.


  • 3C454.3 was detected most days this week with an average daily flux of 2.6E-6.


  • PKS 1329-049 exhibited a high daily flux of (1.4+/-0.1)E-6 on the 28th and in total was detected on 4 days this week (28th, 29th, 1st, 3rd).


  • B2 0619+33 was detected on the 27th, 1st and 2nd.


  • Sporadic activity from B2 1510+31, PKS 0537-441, PKS 0426-380, PKS 0727-11, PKS 2326-502 , CRATES J1640+3946 and 4C+21.35.

Fermi LAT weekly report N. 119

  • After the gamma-ray flux increase from the direction of the Crab Nebula reported by the AGILE and LAT Collaborations ( ATel #2855, ATel #2861) a dedicated pointed observation of the Crab Nebula from 2010-09-23 15:50 UT to 2010-09-27 19:49 UT was performed by Fermi.

  • The Fermi LAT monitoring of this source showed a flux enhancement during the interval 18-22 September. Measurements taken starting on 23 September are consistent with the typical flux of the Crab. The average total flux from this location (which includes the nebula and pulsed emission) above 100 MeV measured between 2010-09-23 00:00:00 and 2010-09-26 18:43:01 UTC was (280 +/- 20) x 10^-8 ph/cm2/sec. The systematic error on the flux is generally estimated to be ~10% at 100 MeV.
    A preliminary phase-resolved analysis of the flaring source shows that the excess flux due to the flare is the same in the on and off pulse selections for the pulsar and thus it does not appear that the enhanced emission is pulsed. This suggests that origin of the flare is related to the nebula rather than the pulsar emission ( ATel #2879).




  • PKS 0727-11 detected in flare on Sept. 21, with daily flux of (1.4+/-0.4)E-6 (see ATel #2860) and continued to be active during the entire week, at daily flux between 0.5E-6 (Sept. 24) and 0.8E-6 (Sept. 25).

  • NGC 1275 (Perseus A) detected on Sept. 23 and 26, with daily flux of (0.5+/-0.2)E-6 and (0.3+/-0.1)E-6.

  • PKS 1329-49 detected in flaring state on four consecutive days this week (Sept. 20-23), with daily flux between 2.5E-6 and 4.5E-6.

  • B2 1846+32A detected on Sept. 20 and 22, at daily flux of about 0.6E-6 and 0.8E-6, respectively.

  • 3C 279 detected on three consecutive days this week (Sept. 20-22), with daily flux between 0.6E-6 and 1.0E-6.

  • PKS 1313+333 detected on two consecutive days this week (Sept. 22 and 23), with daily flux between 0.6E-6 and 0.9E-6.

  • B2 1520+31 detected in high activity state on Sept. 22, with daily flux of about 1.1E-6.

  • PKS 2326-502 detected in high activity state on Sept. 20, with daily flux of about 1.2E-6.

  • B2 0619+33 detected on Sept. 24 and 26, at daily flux of about 0.5E-6 and 0.9E-6, respectively.

  • 3C 454.3 bright for all the week with daily flux between 3.0E-6 (Sept. 26) and 6.5E-6 (Sept. 22).


  • Sporadic daily detections of blazars B2 0200+30 (Sept. 20), S5 0716+714(Sept. 21), Mrk 421 (Sept. 21), 4C +21.35 (Sept. 22), PKS 0736+01 (Sept. 24) and PKS 0524-485 (Sept. 25).

Fermi LAT weekly report N. 118



Covered period: 2010.Sep.06 - 2010.Sept.12 (UT)

LAT Mission week: 118.57 - 119.57





  • PKS 1329-049 (ATel #2837) on September 6, 2010, was in a high state with a gamma-ray flux (E>100MeV) of (3.0 +/-0.5) x10^-6 photons cm^-2 s^-1, making it the brightest source in the extragalactic gamma-ray sky on that day. On September 7, the source was still bright with a flux of (2.3 +/-0.7) x10^-6 photons cm^-2 s^-1, it was also detected with lower flux on September 8 and 11. Previously, the source was detected by Fermi on the 1-day timescale on September 22, 2009, and July 7, 2010, at a flux level of about 1.0 x10^-6 photons cm^-2 s^-1 (ATel #2728). The Fermi LAT contact person for this source is D. Donato (donato[at]milkyway.gsfc.nasa.gov).

  • S5 0716+714> was detected on September 10 with a flux of (0.6 +/-0.2) x10^-6 photons cm^-2 s^-1.

  • 4C +21.35 was detected on September 6, 8 and 11 flux of about 1.0 x10^-6 ph cm^-2 s^-1.

  • 3C 454.3 was detected throughout the week at a flux of about 2.0 x10^-6 ph cm^-2 s^-1.

  • Active sources appearing for short periods of time during this week were:
    PKS 0332-403 (Sep. 10), S4 1030+61 (Sep. 7, 8), TON 599 (4C +29.45, Sep. 6), B2 1520+31 (Sep. 6, 11), PKS 2155-304 (Sep. 7, 9, 10), PKS 2326-502 (Sep. 7, 11, 12).

  • B2 0619+33 first detected on September 1st, showed a GeV flare on
    September 3, reaching a peak flux level on daily scale of 1.0
    +/-0.2*10^-6 ph cm^-2 s^-1 (ATel #2829).

  • 4C +21.35 was detected throughout the week at flux levels between 0.5
    and around 2.0*10^-6 ph cm^-2 s^-1.

  • 3C 454.3 was detected throughout the week at a flux of above
    2.0*10^-6 ph cm^-2 s^-1.

  • Active sources appearing for short periods of time during this week
    were: PKS 0537-441 (Aug. 30), PKS 2326-502 (Aug. 30,31,Sept. 2, and 5), B2 1520+31 (Sept. 3 and 5).

  • PKS 0537-441 is detected through the week with stable daily flux (0.5 X 10-6).

  • TON 599 continues to be detected through the week (flux between 0.9 and 1.5 X 10-6).

  • 4C 21.35 detected only on Aug. 29 with flux 1.5 X 10-6.

  • 3C 454.3 is still bright during all week, with daily flux below 4.2 X 10-6.

  • PKS 2326-502 is detected through the entire week (flux between 0.6 and 1.8 X 10-6).

  • The radio source B2 0619+33/VCS J0622+3326 is detected on Aug. 24, 25, 27 and 28 with flux between 0.6 and 1.2 X 10-6 (peak observed on Aug. 27).

  • Sporadic activity observed from B2 2234+28A (Aug. 23), PKS 0727-11, PKS 1510-08, 4C +47.44 (Aug. 24), PKS 0458-02 (Aug. 25), and 3C 273 (Aug. 26). All fluxes below 1.0 X 10-6.

Fermi LAT weekly report N.115

  • PKS 0537-441 is detected between Aug. 20 and 22 (daily flux 0.5 X 10-6).

  • TON 599 continues to be detected through the entire week (flux between 0.5 and 1.3 X 10-6).

  • 4C 21.35 and 3C 454.3 were relatively bright during all week, with daily flux below 1.2 and 2.4 X 10-6, respectively.

  • PKS 2326-502 is detected through the entire week (flux between 0.7 and 1.4 X 10-6).

  • The radio source B2 0619+33/VCS J0622+3326 is detected on Aug. 16 and 17 with flux at (0.8 +/- 0.3) and (0.6 +/- 0.2) X 10-6.

  • Sporadic activity observed from CGRaBS J0850-1213 (Aug. 17), S5 0716+71, PKS 0805-07 (Aug. 18), PKS 0332-403 (Aug. 19), 3C 66A (Aug. 21), and B2 2234+28A (Aug. 22). All fluxes below 1.0 X 10-6.

Fermi LAT weekly report N.114



Covered period: 2010 Aug. 09 - 15 

LAT Mission week: 114.57 - 115.57





  • Ton 599 (4C 29.45, S3 1156+29, OM 295, 3EG J1200+2847, z=0.72449) showed on August 15, for the first time since the launch of Fermi, a flare above the threshold with daily flux (1.2 +/- 0.3)E-6, a factor ofabout ten above the 1-year average flux. The flare community was alerted n ATel#2795.

  • PKS 2326-502 was still bright at the beginning of the week (flux about 0.8E-6). 

  • NGC 1275 and S5 0716+71 were rather active being detected in some days of the week.

  • 3C 454.3, PKS 0537-441 and 4C 21.35 were bright during the week.

  • PMN J0850-1213 and PKS 1510-08 were seen only in one day.

Fermi LAT weekly report N. 112



Covered period: 2010.August.2 - 2010.August.8

LAT Mission week: 113.57 - 114.57





  • PKS 2326-502 detected in flare on August 7, with daily flux of (1.1+/-0.3)E-6 (see ATel #2783).


  • B2 2308+34 detected in flaring activity for two consecutive days (Aug. 7 and 8) with daily flux of (0.9 +/- 0.2)E-6 (see ATel #2783).


  • NGC 1275 (Perseus A) detected on three consecutive days this week (Aug. 5, 6 and 7), with daily flux between 0.5E-6 and 0.7E-6.


  • S5 0716+714 detected with daily flux at about 0.4E-6 on Aug. 6 and 7. The source was also detected bright on August 8 on timescales of 6 hours at a flux of (1.3 +/- 0.6)E-6.


  • The high redshift blazar (z = 1.762) CRATES J1239+0443 detected on Aug. 3, with daily flux of (0.6+/-0.2)E-6.


  • 1FGL J2015.7+3708, a source in the Cygnus Region, detected on Aug. 4 with daily flux of (2.4+/-0.5)E-6. The most likely counterpart is the blazar B2013+370.


  • PKS 0537-441 detected on three consecutive days this week (Aug. 6-8), with daily flux between 0.3E-6 and 0.6E-6.


  • 4C 21.35 detected on Aug. 5, 6 and 8 at daily flux between 1.3E-6 and 1.7E-6.


  • PKS 1510-089 detected on four days this week with daily flux above 1.0E-6.


  • 3C 454.3 bright for all the week with daily flux between 1.4E-6 (Aug. 5) and 3.4E-6 (Aug. 8).


  • Sporadic daily detections of blazars 4C 28.07 (Aug 7) and PKS 0447-439 (Aug 7).

Fermi LAT weekly report N. 111

  • NGC 1275 (Per A) was detected four days this week (26-29), but with a lower flux than last week, averaging (0.2 ± 0.1)x10-6 over the full week.

  • PKS 1510-08 was relatively bright, detected the 26th-30th, with an average flux for the week of (0.9 ± 0.1)x10-6

  • 3C 454.3 remains fairly bright, but faded a bit compared to the previous week: average flux (1.3 ± 0.1)x10-6 for the week

  • 4C +21.35 was detected on the 26th, 28th, and 29th, with an average flux of (1.0 ± 0.1)x10-6 for the week

  • S5 0716+71 was detected the 26th and 27th, flux below 0.4x10-6


All fluxes are quoted in photons/cm2/s, above 100 MeV. Uncertanties are statistical only.

Extra Note - July 30, 2010



Non-detection of AGL J2241+4454


In ATel #2761, the AGILE team reported the detection of a possible new gamma-ray point source (AGL J2241+4454) at R.A.,Dec. = 340.3, 44.9 (J2000). Preliminary analysis of LAT data for the same direction and time period shows no significant detection above 100 MeV. Assuming a power law spectrum with photon index 2, we place an upper limit on the integral flux above 100 MeV of 1.0 x 10-7 ph cm-2 s-1, at 95% confidence. For a softer source (index=3), the limit shifts up to 3.0 x 10-7.

Fermi LAT weekly report N. 110

LAT Mission week: 111.57 - 112.57





  • NGC 1275 (Perseua A) was detected on 3 days this week- 20th, 21st and 24th. The flux seen on the 24th is similiar to that menioned in the ATel #2737.


  • 3C454.3 was bright again, being detected most days this week with an average daily flux of 2.2x10-6.


  • PKS 1510-08 was also relatively bright, detected thoughout the week at an average daily flux of 1.1x10-6.


  • Both 4C14.23 and 4C21.35 ere detected in the first half of the week with average daily fluxes of 0.5x10-6 and 1.4x10-6, respectively.


  • The BL Lac 3C66A was detected on the 20th and 23rd (flux below 0.6x10-6.


  • PKS 0537-441 was detected on the 21st at a flux of 0.2x10-6 and S5 0716+71 on the 23rd at a flux of 0.2x10-6.

  • BL Lac 3C 66A is detected on Jul. 15, 16, and 18 (flux below 0.5 X 10-6).

  • NGC 1275 (Perseus A) is detected most of the week (flux below 0.7 X 10-6). The first day of activity, corresponding to the highest flux level, was July 13 and an ATel was posted (ATel#2737).

  • PKS 0537-441 is detected most days this week, with daily flux below 0.9 X 10-6.

  • S5 0716+71 is detected on Jul. 14 and 16 (flux below 0.4 X 10-6).

  • 4C+14.23 is detected on Jul. 15 and 16 (flux below 0.6 X 10-6).

  • 4C 21.35 and 3C 454.3 were relatively bright during all week, with daily flux below 2.7 X 10-6 and 3.3 X 10-6, respectively. 4C 21.35 showed some sign of fading in the last part of the week, with flux dropping below 1.0 X 10-6.

  • PKS 1424-41 is detected on Jul. 12 and 15 (flux below 0.6 X 10-6).

  • B2 1520+31 is detected on Jul. 13, 15, and 17 (flux below 1.0 X 10-6).

  • PKS 0426-380 (12), PKS 0524-485 (13), CGRaBS J1312+4828 (13), PKS 1510-08 (13), B2 0716+33 (16) and PKS 0521-36 (17) are detected (flux below 1 X 10-6 ). In parenthesis the day of detection is indicated.

  • PKS 1329-049, a blazar at z=2.15, is detected on Jul. 6 and 7. In the second day the flux reached the 1.0 +/- 0.3 X 10-6 threshold and an ATel was posted (ATel#2728).

  • The radio-loud narrow line Sy 1 galaxy PMN J0948+0022 is detected on Jul. 9 with flux at 1.3 +/- 0.4 X 10-6 and an ATel was posted (ATel#2733).

  • PKS 1424+240 and 4C+14.23 are detected on Jul. 4 and 11, respectively (flux below 1 X 10-6 ).

  • The NLSy1 CGRaBS J0948+0022 (PMN J0948+0022) detected with daily flux of (0.5 +/- 0.3)E-6 on June 28th.


  • The blazar 4C 21.35 (also known as PKS 1222+21 and PKS B1222+216) very bright during all the week, with daily flux between 2.5E-6 and 6.5E-6 (on June 30th).


  • PKS 0521-364 detected on three consecutive days this week (June 29th - July 1st), with a peak daily flux of (1.4 +/- 0.2)E-6 on June 30th.


  • PKS 0426-380 detected most days this week, with daily flux between 0.5E-6 and 1.0E-6.


  • PKS 0537-441 detected on four days this week, with daily flux between
    0.4E-6 and 0.6E-6.


  • 0716+71 detected on four days this week, with daily flux at about 0.5E-6.


  • 3C 454.3 bright for most of the week with daily flux above 1.5E-6.


  • 4C 29.45 detected on June 28th and 30th, with daily flux of about 0.4E-6.


  • Sporadic daily detections of blazars 3C 66A (June 28th), B3 0917+449 (June 28th), PKS 2155-304 (July 3rd), and 4C 47.44 (July 3rd).

Fermi LAT weekly report N. 106

  • PKS 0521-36 was detected for the first time in a daily time scale with
    a flux above the threshold of (1.0 ± 0.2) X 10-6 in June 17, an Atel was
    issued about the flaring activity of this source (see ATel #2683).
    A Swift ToO was obtained (see ATel #2689).


  • 4C +21.35 (June 18, see ATel #2687): Fermi/LAT has observed an increasing
    gamma-ray flux from a source positionally consistent with 4C +21.35 (also known as PKS 1222+21 and PKS B1222+216) at z=0.43. On June 18,
    2010 this blazar showed a bright flare with a daily flux (E>100MeV) of (12.46 ± 0.79) X 10-6. A peak flux (E>100MeV)
    of (16.42 ± 1.89) X 10-6 was reached between 12:00 and 17:01 UT.

    The same flare has been detected also by the AGILE (see ATel #2686) and MAGIC (see ATel #2684) telescopes, a SWIFT follow up has been obtained (see ATel #2698).


  • 3C 454.3 was detected all the week.


  • CGRaBS J1033+6051 was detected above the threshold in the daily time scale on June 15.

Extra Note - July 1, 2010



About source reported in ATel #2703





Following the announcement of a NIR flaring activity of the
QSO CGRaBS J1700+6830 on June 12th,
observed with the CANICA NIR camera on the 2.1m telescope
at the Observatorio Astrofísico Guillermo Haro, located in Cananea,
Mexico, the LAT team announces that on same day (2010-06-12)
the source was in outburst reaching a flux (E>100MeV) of (0.9+/-0.2) x 10^-6 ph cm^-2 s^-1, more than 10 times the 1FGL catalog flux (Abdo, A. et al 2010, ApJ, 715, 429).
This source was detected for the first time from Fermi in the daily time scale
on 2009-03-22 (Atel #1986) in a high state with a gamma-ray flux (E>100MeV)
of (1.0+/-0.2) x 10^-6 ph cm^-2 s^-1.

  • 3C 454.3 was detected all days of the week with a average flux of ~ 2E-6 reaching the higher level of (3.1+/-0.5)E-6 on June 9th.


  • PKS 0235-618 was detected for the first time in a daily time scale with a flux above the threshold of (1.1+/-0.3)E-6 in June 10th, an Atel was issued about the flaring activity of this source (Atel #2669).A Swift ToO was required (see Atel #2673).


  • 4C 21.35 was detected all days of the week showing an increasing trend.


  • PKS 0426-380 was detected on June 13, 11 and 10, PKS 0537-441 was detected on June 13, 12, 11 and 9 and S5 0716+714 was detected only on June 7th.

Fermi LAT weekly report N. 104



Covered period: 2010.May.31 - 2010.Jun.06

  • PKS 1915-458 (June 4; ATel #2666). Fermi/LAT has detected a new gamma-ray source positionally consistent with PKS 1915-458, a flat spectrum radio quasar at z=2.47 (Jackson et al. 2002, A&A, 386, 97). The redshift is unusually high for a flaring LAT blazar, however not unprecedented (ATEL #2217). On June 4, 2010 the gamma-ray flux (E>100MeV) of (0.36 +/-0.15) x10^-6 was observed corresponding to a detection significance of slightly greater than 5 sigma. Swift ToO observations have been requested to confirm identification of the flaring gamma-ray source with PKS 1915-458.

  • GB6 B1310+4844 (GB1 1310+487) is showing increasing gamma-ray flux during the last few weeks. The source was occasionally detected on daily timescale during this week with the moderate flux of ~0.4x10^-6.
    Multiwavelength observations of the source are desirable to compare its current elevated gamma-ray state with the previous major gamma-ray flare in November 2009 (ATel #2306, #2310, #2311, #2316, #2320).

  • BL Lac was detected on June 4 and 5 with a flux of ~(0.8 +/-0.2)x10^-6.

  • 4C +21.35 was detected during the first half of the week.

  • 3C 454.3 was detected throughout the week.

  • Other sources detected on daily timescale during the week:
    PKS 0426-380 (May 31, June 6), PKS 0537-441 (June 2, 5, 6), S5 0716+714 (May 31, June 5), S4 1030+61 (June 2, 4), PKS 1329-049 (June 1), PKS 1326-697 (June 2), PKS 1424-41 (June 1, 2, 6), PKS 1510-08 (June 3), 1FGL J1642.5+3947 (=3C 345?, June 2), PKS 2233-148 (June 3).

  • Cygnus X-3 brightened this week during the current soft state. See ATEL #2646.

  • BL Lacertae brightened on May 28 with a flux of (1.2 ± 0.3) x 10-6

  • 3C 454.3 remained steady and bright with daily flux above 2 x 10-6

  • PKS 0537-441 was above threshold several days this week with daily flux between 0.7 x 10-6 and 1.1 x 10-6

  • PKS 0426–380, S5 0716+71, GB 1310+487, PKS 1424-41, and PKS 1510-08 were detected on several days this week below 1 x 10-6

  • Blazars S4 1030+61, PKS 1329–049, and PKS 2155–304 were each detected during one day this week

  • PKS 1424-41 detected most days this week, with increasing daily flux between 0.6 and 1E-6.

  • PKS 0537-441 detected most days this week, with daily flux between 0.6E-6 and 1.1E-6.

  • Blazar PKS 0426-380 detected on four days this week, with daily flux between 0.5 and 1.4E-6.

  • Blazar CGRaBS J1312+4828 detected on three consecutive days this week (May 18th - May 20th) with an average daily flux of about 0.35E-6 ph cm-2 s-1.

  • 3C 454.3 very bright all the week with daily flux above 3.5E-6.

  • Sporadic daily detections of blazars 3C 273, PKS 2155-304, PKS 0332-403, 4C +55.17, PKS 1510-089 and CGRaBS J1700+6830.

  • Blazars PKS 1424-41, 4C 21.35 (also known as PKS 1222+21), 3C 454.3 very bright (daily flux above 2E-6 during most of the week).

  • For the first time from the launch of Fermi, the LAT source 1FGL J1033.8+6048 (associated to two FSRQ sources, S4 1030+61, a.k.a. TXS 1030+611, z=1.4009, and GB6 J1032+6051, z=1.064) flared above the 1E-6threshold. ATel#2622 published. Follow up by ground-based telescopes and Swift confirm the identification with S4 1030+61 (related following ATels). Weekly averaged flux is about 0.5E-6.

  • PKS 0537-441 dimmed during the week.

  • PKS 0301-243 reached the daily flux threshold of 1E-6 on May 11. Weekly averaged flux is about 0.3E-6.

  • BL Lac relatively bright (in particular reached a daily flux around 0.7E-6 on May 11, and weekly averaged flux about 0.26E-6), as well as Mkn 421 (weekly averaged flux about 0.1E-6).

  • Sporadic daily detections of blazars OP 313, 3C 273, PKS 0426-380, and PKS 2155-304.

  • Other blazars detected on weekly timescale, among others, are 3C 66A, NGC 1275, PMN J0850-1213, PKS 2227-08, B2 1520+31, PKS 0332-403.

  • 4C+21.35 still active, detected all week with an average daily flux of 2.1x10^-6 ph cm-2 s-1, rising towards the end of the week peaking on the 8th May at a flux of (3.2+/-0.4)x10^-6 p cm-2 s-1.
  • 3C454.3 was very bright, detected every day this week, peaking on the 7th May at a flux of (8.9+/-0.8)x10^-6 ph cm-2 s-1.
  • PKS 0537-441 continued its activity from last week with an average daily flux of 0.7x10^-6 ph cm-2 s-1. It was detected every day this week.
  • PKS 0301-243 continued its activity from last week and was detected up until 6th May with an average daily flux = 0.5x10^-6 ph cm-2 s-1.
  • PKS 0426-380 detected for four days this week, 6th-9th May, an average daily flux of ~0.5x10^-6 ph cm-2 s-1.
  • PKS 1424-41 detected for five days this week, 5th-9th May, with an average daily flux of ~1.3x10^-6 ph cm-2 s-1.
  • CRABS J1033+6051 was detected in the middle of the week, 4th-7th May, with an average daily flux of ~0.5x10^-6 ph cm-2 s-1.

  • 4C+21.35 still very bright, detected all week with an average daily flux of 4.3x10^-6 ph cm-2 s-1, peaking on the 30th April at a flux of (13.1+/-0.7)x10^-6 ph cm-2 s-1.

  • 3C454.3 remained bright, detected every day this week, fluctuating in daily flux between (2.9+/-0.5)x10^-6 ph cm-2 s-1 and (5.7+/-0.6)x10^-6 ph cm-2 s-1.

  • PKS 0537-441 (27th April, daily flux = (1.2+/-0.2)x10^-6 ph cm-2 s-1) and PKS 0301-243 (28th April, daily flux = (1.4+/-0.3) x10^-6 ph cm-2 s-1) exhibited an increase in gamma- ray activity , (see ATel#2591). Both sources detected throughout week.

  • PKS 0426-380 detected on most days this week, at a relatively steady daily flux of ~0.6x10^-6 ph cm-2 s-1.


  • Mrk421 detected on four days this week with an average daily flux of ~0.3x10^-6 ph cm-2 s-1.

  • Sporacid activity from CGRaBS J0850-1213, CGRaBS J1033+6051, PKS 0727-11, PKS 1510-08, PKS 1424-41 and B2 0954+25A

  • PKS 0426-380 detected on 5 days this week with a daily flux above 0.5 +/- 0.2 X 10-6 (peak on Apr 22, with a daily flux (0.9 +/- 0.3) X 10-6).

  • PKS 0537-441 detected all week long with daily flux approaching and around (1 +/- 0.2) X 10-6.

  • S5 0716+714 detected on Apr. 19 and 22 with daily fluxes around (0.5 +/- 0.2) X 10-6.

  • CGRaBS J0850-1213 was detected on Apr. 19, 24, and 25 with daily fluxes not exceeding (0.8 +/- 0.2) X 10-6.

  • 4C +21.35 has been detected all week long in a high state with daily fluxes above (1.5 +/- 0.2) X 10-6. A peak in intensity has been observed on Apr. 24, when the daily flux was (8.1 +/- 0.7) X 10-6 (see ATel#2584).

  • PKS 1424-41 has reached daily fluxes around (1.0 +/- 0.2) X 10-6 on Apr. 21 and 22 (see ATel#2583).

  • PKS 2233-148 was detected on Apr. 19 and 23 with daily fluxes around (0.7 +/- 0.3) X 10-6.

  • 3C 454.3 still bright through the week but with daily flux fading from (9.5 +/- 0.8) X 10-6 to (3.4 +/- 0.5) X 10-6.

  • PKS 0906+01, HB89 1738+499, PKS 0301-243, PKS 0805-07, MRk 421, CGRaBS J1033+6051, and CGRaBS J1739+4955 were detected in one day of the week (flux below 1 X 10-6 ).

  • 3C 454.3 detected in high state again this week, although seems fading. At the beginning of the week, on April 13, it reached a daily maximum flux of (13.4 +/- 0.9 ) e-6 while it has been detected with a flux of (7.3 +/- 0.7)e-6 in the last day.


  • PKS 0537-441 active during the first days of the week (daily flux above 1e-6), then fading but maintaining a daily flux less above 0.6 e-6.


  • PKS 1510-08 observed on April 14 with daily flux of (1.2 +/- 0.3) e-6.


  • 4C 21.35 exhibited a high state (daily flux value about 1e-6 most of the week).


  • Sporadica appearance from 4C 14.23, PKS 0426-380, 4C 38.41, S5 0716+714, GB6 0850+4854 and PKS 0446+11 .

Extra note - Apr. 15, 2010



About source reported in ATel#2552




Following the announcement by the AGILE team (ATel#2552) of the possible detection of a new unidentified gamma-ray source (AGL J0906-1241) the LAT data for the same sky position and time period are checked. Preliminary analysis points out no detection above 100 MeV by Fermi LAT as well as no visible photon-excess in the count map region around the specified position.

  • 3C 454.3 still bright throughout the week, and increasing its flux value from 2.4 X 10^-6 ,at the beginning of the week, up to 7.2 X 10^-6 occurred the last day of the week.

  • PKS 0537-441 detected all the week with flux values oscillating around 10^-6

  • PKS 0426-380 detected for 5 days of the week with mean flux value of = 0.8 X 10^-6

  • 4C 38.41, 3C 273 seen twice this week with mean flux values respectively of 2.5 X 10^-6 and 1.2 X 10^-6

  • Mkn 421 quasi-detected twice during the week (mean flux about 0.2 X 10^-6)

  • Sporadic activity from B2 0716+33, PKS 1510-08, 4C 21.35, PKS 0524-485, PKS 2233-148, PKS 0402-362.

Fermi LAT weekly report N. 93

LAT Mission week: 93.57 - 94.57





  • PKS 0537-441 was getting brighter at the end of the week. Its weekly average flux was (0.9 ±0.1)*10^-6. Previous gamma-ray activity was reported in ATels #2454, #2124, #1759.

  • PKS 1510-08 was observed at the end of the week peaking at (3.0 ±0.6)*10^-6 on the 20th of March.

  • 4C +21.35 was detected above 0.7*10^-6 throughout the week.

  • PKS 0727-11 was observed in a high state with a weekly average flux of (0.9 ±0.1)*10^-6.

  • PKS 0402-362 was detected on the 15th of March with a flux of (2.0 ±0.4)*10^-6. Its weekly average flux was (0.7 ±0.1)*10^-6.

  • 3C 273 remained bright throughout the week with an average flux of (2.2 ±0.2)*10^-6.

  • 3C 454.3 remained bright throughout the week as well, with an average flux of (2.6 ±0.2)*10^-6 .

  • Fermi J2102+4542 probably associated with the symbiotic nova V407 Cyg (ATel #2487). Average weekly flux=(0.5 ±0.1)*10^-6. You can read more about the current exceptional outburst of V407 Cyg on Universe Today.

  • 3C 454.3 still bright throughout the week, with an initial daily flux greater than 4 X 10-6 and fading to 2.5 X 10-6.

  • 3C 273 also bright, detected on 5 days this week with a daily flux greater than 2.4 X 10-6.

  • The FSRQs PKS 0402-362 and PKS 0426-380 both bright, detected most days of the week, with a daily flux just above and below (respectively) the 1 X 10-6 threshold.

  • PKS 0527-441 detected all this week long with an average daily flux of 0.5 X 10-6.

  • 0716+714 detected in the first three days of the week with a daily flux of 0.3 X 10-6 in the first day and 0.8 X 10-6 in the following ones.

  • Sporadic activity from PKS 0250-225 (0.5), MKN 421 (0.3), PKS 0727-11 (0.6 and 1.1), B2 1520+31 (0.4), PG 1553+113 (0.2), and PKS 2326-502 (0.4). In parenthesis the daily flux in unit of 10-6.

  • The unidentified source J2102+4542 was detected in the last 2 days of the week with a flux of 1 X 10-6, and 1.4 X 10-6, respectively. See ATel#2487.

  • 3C 454.3 still bright, detected daily throughout the week, with an average daily flux of 3.1 e-6.


  • 3C273 also bright, detected on 4 days this week with an average daily flux of 2.2 e-6 and reached (3.1+/-0.7)e-6 on the 7th .


  • The FSRQs PKS 0402-362 and PKS 0426-380 both bright, detected throughout the week and both reached a high daily flux on the 7th: PKS 0402-362 (1.4+/-0.30) e-6 and PKS 0426-380 (1.6+/-0.3) e-6.


  • PKS 1244-255 exhibited a rapid flare midweek, reaching (1.3+/-0.3) e-6 for the 4th.


  • 4C+21.35 bright on the 2nd at a daily flux of (1.1+/-0.4) e-6.


  • 4C+38.41 and PKS 0527-441 detected most days this week.


  • Sporadic activity from PKS 0454-234, PKS 0727-11 , PKS 0736-770 and B2 1520+31 .

LAT Mission week: 90.57 - 91.57





  • 3C 454.3, as usual, is always present during the week, its daily maximum flux has been detected on Feb. 22 with a value of at (3.2 +/- 0.5) e-6.
  • Blazar 4C 21.35 reached on Feb. 22 and on Feb. 27 the flux value of (1.3 +/- 0.4)e-6 .

  • Markarian 421 detected (fading) only on Feb. 22 with a daily flux below 1e-6.

  • PKS 0537-441 detected most of the week with a daily flux less below 1e-6.

  • 4C 38.41 (S4 1633+38) was in high state on Feb. 23 with a daily flux of (1.5+/-0.4)e-6 (see Atel#2456). In this day the flux of 1FGL J1635.0+3808 (the LAT 1-year point source catalog object associated with 4C +38.41) increased to approximately an order of magnitude with respect to its average flux.

  • PKS 0426-380 detected a couple of time with a flux around 0.8e-6.

  • 3C 273 reached a daily flux value of (1.6 +/- 0.4)e-6 on Feb. 28.

  • Other bright (flux above 0.5e-6) extragalactic sources detected during the week are: PKS 0805-07 and S5 0716+714.

  • 3C 454.3 still bright with a daily flux at around 3E-6 during this week.

  • Blazar 4C 21.35 has been bright, detected with a daily flux at about 1E-6 four days in the week.

  • Markarian 421 was detected on Feb. 16th, 17th and 21th with a daily flux below 0.5E-6. On Feb. 17th, the blazar exhibited a spectral index of 1.4+/-0.2 and TS=111.

  • PKS 0537-441 detected a couple of times during the week with a daily flux just below 1E-6.

  • J1332-0509 popped up only on Feb. 16th with a daily flux of ( 0.9 +/- 0.3)E-6.

  • PKS 0426-380 detected from Feb. 18th to the end of the week, with a daily flux around 1E-6, reaching (3+/-1)E-6 in the first 6h run on Feb. 18th.

  • B2 1520+31 detected on Feb. 21th with a daily flux of (0.8+/-0.3)E-6.

  • High-Mass X-ray Binary LSI +61 303 was bright during this week, reaching (4 +/- 1)E-6 in the first 6h run on Feb. 18th.

  • 3C 454.3 still dominated the extragalactic gamma-ray sky with a daily flux at around 3E-6 and above 4E-6 at the end of the week..

  • BLLac object PKS0537-441 has been detected with a daily flux just above 1E-6 two times during the week.

  • Blazar 4C 21.35 has been bright during all the week, reaching a daily flux of (6.1+/-0.6)E-6 on Feb. 8th.

  • Blazar PKS 0244-470 was in a high state on Feb. 12th with a daily flux of (1.0 +/- 0.2)E-6 (see Atel #2440). This corresponds to approximately an order of magnitude increase with respect to the average flux of 1FGL J0245.9-4652 which is the LAT 1-year point source catalog object associated with PKS 0244-470.

  • Other bright (Flux>0.5E-6) extragalactic sources detected on weekly timescale :
    PKS 0727-11, PKS 0426-380 and PKS 1510-08
